What a Day!

Well, yesterday was an interesting one! It started out with making a cake - we always make one on June 29, since that is Eowyn's birthday, our daughter that was still-born in 2009.  Liam suggested carrot cake, which paired well with all the carrots I had in the fridge, and I substituted fresh goat cheese for the cream cheese in the topping.  Delicious!

The rest of the day was fairly mundane - until it was almost time to leave for our usual Wednesday potluck, and Liam fell out of the house window!   He went out the low window over the windowseat in the new bedroom, about a 6-7' drop to the ground and a large rock.  He seemed okay at first, just a bit bruised and stunned, but it was quickly apparent he didn't know what had happened.  He didn't remember the fall, didn't remember why his shoulder hurt, no matter how many times I told him - and just got groggier and groggier.  I took him to see Caleb, as he continued to not remember anything for the last several hours.  He was pretty clearly concussed, and getting worse for about an hour, and then within about 10 minutes, perked up, lost his bloodshot, bleary eyes, and was back to his chatty self.  He's been fine ever since - although he says if he bounces very much his head hurts, and he has a pretty impressive abrasion on his shoulder.  He even, with great insight that led us to discuss recent events surrounding football teams and players, decided that it's just not worth a little fun to get a concussion.

And as a last quick side note - believe it or not, it turns out we have not one but two new duck mamas!  Caleb discovered a second set of 3 ducklings with a different mama, probably also born in the last week or so.  Now if we could just have a calf - and I suppose a lamb - we would have all the food groups covered.  Sorry, I mean the different animal species :).

Whew, glad to hear Liam's all right!

Hope that head of his heals up.

eeek!

So sorry to hear of Liam's misadventure. Trust he recovers quickly, glad he was not more badly injured.

And yes, I was thinking of you all on Eowyn's birthday....
