These dryer balls come in a set of three, and are made with felted alpaca wool insides, and an outer covering of felted sheep wool. Occasionally I dye the sheep wool a variety of colors, but currently they are all the natural white.
Dryer balls replace both dryer sheets and fabric softener, as well as speeding dry time by 25-40%, saving on electric costs (dryers are one of the biggest household energy users). This is because the dryer balls keep the clothing from wadding up - similar to putting tennis balls or a shoe in with a load of jeans, they both aerate and physically soften the clothes. Unlike tennis balls, they are made entirely of natural material - wool! - so you don't have to worry about what might be volatizing out and into your laundry.
If you like a fragrance in your laundry, simply add a few drops of your favorite essential oil or blend (my new favorite is lime with a bit of ginger and lavender) right to the ball before tossing it in.
