A New Name

Well, this weekend our house addition unofficially changed names - from "the addition" to "the new room".  The difference is one, big change - we now have a doorway between the existing house and the new room!  We took the living room window out, and it really changes the whole thing.  Of course, getting the 10 or so remaining strawbales out also helped!  We cleaned and swept, scraped all the mud-splats of dried plaster off the floor, and swept, and swept and swept!  There is so much orange mud-dust worked into the floor after plastering, I can easily sweep a pile of it 10 times a day if I wanted to.

We also put up the Christmas tree on Sunday.  As usual, we found a cedar somewhere on the farm that was in danger of being eaten by the cows and goats within the next year, and dug it up - our Christmas Cedar Rescue Program :).  After Christmas, we'll plant it out in the yard with the others.  We put it up in the new room, so for the first time we have a Christmas tree in the front window, visible from the road (if you have binoculars!).  I feel so suburban :)

To be able to plug in the tree lights, Caleb got the outlets all wired in on Sunday as well.  We are going to wait to wire in the overhead lights until we sheetrock the ceiling - it may be a few months, but we have lamps until then.  We also finished insulating the ceiling, so all that's left to make it usable - short-term - is sheetrocking the one wall (back of the closet) that is exposed insulation.  That will surely get things poked through the paper in the next couple of months, so that's a priority.  The final step is to thoroughly clean the plywood floor and paint it, since it will be months before we get to laying the hardwood flooring.  We have a WWOOFer coming January 3, so that's our deadline to get these things all done, and the room usable.  I think we'll be able to pull that off.
